The raffles hotel is a fine, fine hotel. In Singapore it's as big an attraction as anything else. So when you're in Singapore and you want to have a proper high tea, then you would think you can't go wrong with the Raffles.
Now call me a snob if you wish but when I go to High Tea I expect to be offered a selection of teas. Not tea or coffee. Even a choice of two teas would be nice. But not Tea or Coffee. Sheesh.
So it was a bad start. Then they proceed to tell me that the buffet is at the end of the room. Hmm...That may not be a bad thing. I mean I can get more for my money right? Wrong. But first let's see the 3 level tea tray of goodies. Now I'm thinking scones, tea sandwiches delightful little pastries and the like. And they delivered.
Do you see how crooked the silver frame is? Woah. It looks like someone got bashed over the head with it. No good. It's not photo distortion, it really was that crooked. The important part? The food you ask? Not good. The bread was stale, and Pillsbury Scones rock the world compared to the Raffles Scones. 0 for 2. Yeah and the delightful little pastries? Yeah not delightful. If you want details you can ask me, but I'm done bashing the food.
Kind of. I mentioned the Buffet right? Hmm...Buffet at high tea. As expected they had all of the high tea not-so-goodies and well...
Those would be a curry puff on the left, mai fun on the right, lo bak go on the bottom right and I don't remember what on the bottom left. WEIRD. Dude this is high tea. Not my southeast asian lunch buffet. And I'd forgive them if it was good. Yeah, not forgiving them. Not Good.
Now here's the kicker. The tea was tea and that's fine. Even if the tea is supposed to be the highlight of the high "TEA" and they only have 1 kind I'm not happy but I'll live. But please, REFILL MY CUP!!! I mean come on if I have to flag down the waiter to get a single refill of tea??? I'm never going back. EVER.
There was one highlight though. Check out the mustaches on these two!
